Hello!  My name is Merissa Jem Roberts (Jem) and I am a Nutritional Therapist pursuing my Masters in Nutritional Therapy (MNT). 
What does being a Nutritional Therapist mean?  It means I'm REALLY into food on a scientific, holistic, synergistic, and passionate level!! 
I am driven to prevent and treat sicknesses and create homeostasis.  I help clients with symptoms from ailments, diseases, weight gain/loss, nutrition-balance and all the things in-between.  If I don't already have the answers, I will help you find the answers to living a balanced nutritional life.  I'll also help you build, from the foundation up, a relationship with food that doesn't rely on a self-defeatist approach.  No counting calories, no counting fat, no living with the worry that the impending doom is lurking around the corner.  You deserve to have a great relationship with food but before we can do that we must REDEFINE what that means.  AND no, I'm not taking all your cherished 'good' foods away from you and replacing them with boring plain salads either, redefine doesn't mean punish!  P.S. I LOVE FOOD! 


Stay tuned, we're working on our cookbook series that will help you get on track to creating a balanced relationship with food.  It won't require you to count calories, fat, or portion control.  The main focus of our cookbook series is to work from the ground up, so you can really control the quality of your life and the way food is integrated into your life style.

Before starting with our cookbook series program, we recommend that you kick-start your body with a detox.  There are a couple options to choose from depending on whether you want something FAST or something to ease you into recognizing your body symptoms.  The Fast option is the 7-day system juice detox and the other option is the 14-day Raw Reset.  These options basically work to 'reset' your body from the cravings you have with the foods that really bring your health, mood, and energy down.  You don't HAVE to start with a detox, it's just recommended so your sort of starting off with a 'clean-plate'.
 

It doesn't matter if you're a stay-at-home mom or working in a fast-paced, high-stress work environment.  Everyone will be able to use the cookbook.  The foundation of the cookbook starts with the basics and progresses from there, so you're not buying ingredients for one recipe that you won't use again and will eventually go bad.  In fact, we're all for using up ALL the ingredients in your fridge and making sure you've always got the stuff you need for each recipe!!  Not only that, but we're also making sure that you're starting off with the basics of knowing your body. 

I've worked with people who have had cravings from carbs and coffee, to cheese, deserts and wine.  This isn't a deprived lifestyle, it's one that works with YOUR body.  Some people may be able to eat dairy, while others can't.  That doesn't mean that one is right and the other isn't.  While my recipe books don't include dairy, that doesn't mean you can't include it yourself. The reason it's not included in the recipe books is because a majority of people ARE lactose-intolerant.  However, if a recipe for pizza has no cheese and you can eat cheese, then by all means add the cheese.  That's IF you can eat cheese.  The main point is to recognize your body, the symptoms you have when eating certain things, and preventing diseases from happening to your body.  That all occurs with homeostasis, a state of equilibrium.  It's recommended that you start your body off with a detox, to make sure you get yourself closer to that equilibrium.  It can take anywhere from 6 months to a year for your body to undo all the damage done over the years, so be patient and have fun. 
Remember, if your concerned with getting Calcium, let me assure you that this cook book does everything to include most all of your vitamins, minerals and various nutrients.  If you feel you're not getting enough calcium, take a look at your intake of Chloride (Fried foods, processed flours, etc.) those are the main reason your calcium absorption isn't occurring.
